Cameras on police uniforms improve safety during emergency actions

Lost24

Can cameras on police uniforms improve the behaviour of both the officers and civilians during emergency actions?

Interesting experiment was conducted at the Cambridge University .The work of police officers in Great Britain and California was analyzed. Entire experiment lasted the whole year, and the registration of the work of officers took place with cameras installed on uniforms. The time of registration of police activities started from their departure from the police station, all the way to the finishing the duty.

What effects did installed cameras bring about?

Without them, there were  1500 complaints filed. However, when people knew about the fact that the entire incident was being recorded, the number of complaints went down by over 90%.

We all have seen the footage posted online recorded by witnesses during the police intervention. We can see provocative and offensive behaviour of civilians towards police officers. The behaviour of  police or the municipal guards also leaves a lot to be desired.

Scientists proved that the awareness of the fact that we are being recorded influenced our behaviour considerably. However, for some people the camera installed on police uniforms worked in the simply opposite way, people threw a fit when they learnt that they had been recorded and attacked officers. 15% increase of assaults on police officers was recorded.

We are waiting, until Poland introduces this kind of solution.
