Application which improves the safety in our towns

Lost24

Empty streets and dark corners can be a matter of concern, in particular, when somebody is coming back late at night, but thanks to special applications the residents of Canberra in Australia know, which places should be given a wide berth.

With the mobile application and the special website - WCHM Safety Mapping Survey Tool- the Australians decided to take care of their safety. By the application or directly from a website, the residents of Canberra can mark the dangerous spots on the map of their cities which for some reason make them feel endangered.

The website is managed by Women's Centre for Health Matters foundation and financed by Australian government of capital territory. The foundation underlines that over the years women many times pointed to the fact that even in the public sphere they feel endangered. For this reason WCHM foundation decided to design digital tool in order to gather information about dangerous places in their city.

Thanks to the on-line map users know which way they should avoid at dusk, and a signal is sent to the city, what and where should be improved, for example by sending out more  police patrols or improving the lighting in the reported place.

Do you think that application would be useful in our cities?

In our opinion, the application is a great tool to improve the safety in our towns.
