According to the latest NIK report, the number of cats in pounds increased over a few years. 

Are cats owners aware of the threats to their animals, away from the safe territory which is our home? 

Above all, the road traffic, animals are very often victims of road accidents. Equip the cat with flashy collar, it can decrease the risk of being hit by the car, drivers will more quickly notice such animal after dark. 

Make sure that our cat has a collar with address and instilled chip. If the animal goes missing we increase the odds of tracking it down. 

Other animals are one more threat. The meeting with other dog or cat can result in injuring  our animal. Remember about regular vaccinations and worming. 

How to look for the cat? 

Remember, the cat does not have to walk far away from its home. Right after the disappearance, the cat is scared and runs for shelter in the safe place. The cat on the unknown territory behaves quietly, hides away and does not mew. Search for our animal in the late evening hours or at dawn. 

Where to search? 

If little time has passed from the disappearance,  search in the vicinity of our house. Look for in the basements, stairwells, glance into cellar windows and call for the cat. It is best to go searching with cats food and plastic container/cage in which we will be able to place the scared cat. 

We won't remind about obvious things such as putting notices, preferably  with colourful picture of the cat. Additionally post information on portals and internet forums. 

To  avoid such an event remember about securing windows, installing balcony nets and chipping our animals.
