Skimmer - the cover put on payment card slot in the ATM.
At the end of May, the residents of Katowice who use one of the local ATMs were taken by an unpleasant surprise. The significant amounts of money (up to 2500 PLN)disappeared from their bank accounts.
Even greater creativity was shown by ingenious criminals from the USA, as this kind of cover together with microcamera was placed in self-service checkout in one of the big chains of hypermarkets. The entire operation took only 2 seconds. Data found its way to criminals through bluetooth connection, in this way they stole over 20 thousand dollars.
What is the skimmer's task? The device copies the contents of the magnetic stripe of our payment card. It lets the thief make the duplicate of our payment card and charge our banking account by making unauthorized payments for goods and services as well as withdraw the cash from ATMs.
How to defend against skimming?
In our earlier article "The theft of money from ATMs - bank cards" https://lost24.pl/post/29/kradziezy-pieniedzy-z-bankomatow-karty-bankowe we gave you some hints.
We encourage the greater precautions. Keep an eye to all untypical elements of the ATM, protect the PIN code, and we will certainly lower the risk of the theft of money from our bank account.
